“Das beste Essen!” That German phrase simply means, “the best food.” And on the Smoky Valley Limited, we take pride in celebrating our region’s German heritage, as we present another classic German meal! To celebrate spring break, Schatzi’s Schnitzel Haus of Riley presents your choice of schnitzel (breaded pork chop) or German beef goulash, with German sauerkraut with bacon, semmelknodel (bread dumplings) with mushroom sauce, and for dessert, homemade apfelstrudel (apple strudel). Iced tea and water accompany the meal. And for an extra charge, Schatzi’s has German beer! The train leaves our 1887 Rock Island Depot at 6:00 p.m. Enjoy a taste of Germany as the A&SV Smoky Valley Limited glides through the river valley for a two-hour dining adventure on the rails of Kansas history!
