2027 American Flag Sponsorships
Dear Abilene Supporter,
Visitors to Abilene frequently comment on the beautiful American flags lining Buckeye Avenue and NW 3rd Street. These flags are a source of community pride and one of the many wonderful features that make Abilene one of the Best Small Towns to Visit in the U.S.
As we look ahead to 2027, we hope to continue this patriotic tradition that welcomes thousands of visitors to our community each year. From our proud Western heritage to our connection to President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Abilene has a special place in American history, and our flags serve as a fitting tribute to that legacy.
The City of Abilene's Convention & Visitors Bureau is once again seeking sponsors for the American flags displayed along Buckeye Avenue from I-70 to the south city limits and west along NW 3rd Street. The flags fly from Eisenhower Marathon weekend in April through Veterans Day in November, welcoming visitors and residents for approximately seven months each year.
With constant exposure to Kansas winds and weather, the flags and poles experience significant wear and tear. The City of Abilene's Public Works Department installs, maintains and replaces them as needed to keep our community looking its best.
Our goal is to raise enough funds to purchase 200 new American flags and replacement flag poles for the 2027 season. Although the cost of flags and poles has increased significantly, we have maintained our sponsorship rate at just $25 so that individuals, families, businesses and organizations can participate. Your sponsorship helps offset the cost of purchasing and replacing both flags and poles, ensuring this beloved tradition continues.
We invite you to show your Abilene pride by sponsoring one or more flags for 2027. Please complete the enclosed form and return it to the Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau by January 22, 2027.
Thank you for your continued generosity and for helping us keep the American flag flying proudly throughout Abilene!
