Think you have to head to New York City for Broadway-quality theatre? Think again. Tucked in the heart of America’s Best Historic Small Town, Abilene’s Great Plains Theatre continues to dazzle audiences with professional productions—and this June, it’s going big.

Running June 20–29, the beloved musical Big Fish takes center stage, bringing with it a heartwarming, whimsical journey that’s part fairy tale, part family drama, and 100% full of magic.

Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, Big Fish follows the life of Edward Bloom—a traveling salesman known for spinning tall tales that dance somewhere between truth and myth. His stories—complete with giants, witches, and circus adventures—have enchanted everyone around him, especially his devoted wife, Sandra. But when his grown son Will sets out to discover the truth behind the legends, what unfolds is a deeply moving exploration of family, imagination, and legacy.

With stunning visuals, a heartfelt score, and plenty of humor, Big Fish is a theatrical experience that’s richer, funnier, and bigger than life itself—and it’s all happening on stage in downtown Abilene.
